We are pleased to announce a new project this year.

Low Carbon Landscapes grants support diverse approaches to investing in carbon abatement across agriculture and the land sector. Funded by the NSW Government under the Primary Industries Productivity and Abatement program, these projects will demonstrate financially viable models for delivering carbon abatement and a range of co-benefits including biodiversity, climate resilience and productivity gains.

What is the HLN Upper Billabong Low Carbon Landscapes project?

The HLN project is helping farmers access natural capital profiling and project planning for carbon and biodiversity initiatives. This includes business modelling and a realistic assessment of the opportunities through environmental markets mechanisms.

If you’re considering significant fencing changes, a pasture renovation program, new tree lanes, or revegetation areas, register for a Natural Capital Profile to:

There’s no obligation – Upper Billabong Low Carbon Landscapes simply supports farmers in exploring their options and understanding what might work for their business.

As momentum in this space grows, Holbrook Landcare is actively exploring ways to promote participation in carbon markets, particularly through insetting and sustainability credentialling to unlock value for both farmers and the environment in this region.

Project Objectives

The Upper Billabong Low Carbon Landscapes project aims to:

  1. Explore opportunities for high-quality carbon abatement projects across the combined 59,559 hectares of the three Target Landscape Areas (Mountain Creek, Ten Mile and Mullengandra)
  2. Develop investment-ready projects covering at least 1,834 hectares across Target Landscape Areas, with estimated carbon abatement of at least 769,752 tonnes of CO₂e over 25 years
  3. Create replicable models that enable land managers to participate in environmental markets independently, without needing a broker

This project is supported by the NSW Government through a Low Carbon Landscapes grant, delivered under the Primary Industries Productivity and Abatement Program within the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
