SUMMARY:Managing Soil Acidity in Permanent Pastures: Producer Demonstration site – Field Day
DESCRIPTION:Holbrook Landcare Network is hosting a field day as part of the ‘Managing Soil Acidity in Permanent Pastures’ Producer Demonstration Site (PDS). The day will allow producers and advisors to discuss effective top-dressed liming strategies in permanent pastures in the southern slopes of NSW.\nMLA’s PDS program supports producers to adapt, validate and demonstrate the business value of integrating new management practices/skills into their local farming systems.\nOverview of the Producer Demonstration Site\nThe ‘Managing Soil Acidity in Permanent Pastures’ PDS is investigating the most effective top-dressed liming strategy in non-arable pasture systems where lime incorporation is not possible or preferred. It aims to demonstrate that improved monitoring of soil pH profiles and adapting liming application rates and timing to meet higher pH targets will improve pasture production and composition and therefore the profitability and sustainability of permanent pasture systems. For more information visit: https://holbrooklandcare.org.au/projects/permanent-pastures/\nWhat’s on the agenda?\n\nTopics to be covered on the day include:\n\nBackground and update on the 3 local lime demonstration sites\nEffective ways of monitoring soil pH and assessing pastures\nDifferent approaches for effective acid soil management in pasture systems\nActive legume management in productive high rainfall/high altitude pastures\n\n\n\n\nGuest speakers:\n\nDr Jason Condon – Associate Professor in Soil Science, Charles Sturt University\nDr Richard Hayes – Senior Research Scientist, NSW DPI\nNick McGrath – Project Officer – Soils, Holbrook Landcare Network\n\n\n\nFREE, with morning tea provided (Bookings Essential)\nBookings: via Humanitix\nRSVP: Monday 13 November\nMore information: Nick McGrath  P: 0488 155 101  E: nickmcgrath@holbrooklandcare.org.au\n
